The music of Will Benavides is a reflection of his cross-cultural experience moving to Canada from Colombia in 1998. His music is rooted in Latin American rhythms from Colombia, Brazil, and Cuba, as well as inspired by funk, pop, jazz and African music. Some of the artists that have influenced him and inspired him the most are The Beatles, Sting, Sergio Mendez, Carlos Vives, and recently, Bruno Mars, Snarky Puppy and Jacob Collier.

In Bogota, Colombia, Benavides studied music at the Javeriana University with emphasis on sound engineering. Then in Vancouver Canada he graduated from the Recording Arts program at Columbia Academy, and later studied jazz guitar at Capilano University with Bill Coon.

Prior to his new debut as a soloist, he also formed, along with his brother Miguel, a composer, arranger and drummer in its own, two bands: Candelaria and Somos Collective, and recorded two albums with each group respectively, “Equilibrio Emocional” (Emotional Balance) and “Todo Fluye Así” (Everything flows like this).

With his new release “Un Mar de Amor y Paz” – (Sea of Love Peace), Will explores themes of self-discovery, spiritual growth and life personal experiences.
